October 2007 - Find Your Inner Cocktail Glass

When you consider that the Mornington Peninsula where I live is wine country it is not surprising that I have discovered a means of relating our body shapes back to drinking glasses. Only with one gIass I have taken a little artistic licence as they remind me of the champagne flutes my mother had when I was growing up. While champagne glasses now are straight up and down flutes my mother had a beautiful set that had a waist in the centre.

It's not that I don't like fruit and vegetables, in fact I do very much, but I dislike us making reference to anyone's body shape in terms of a fruit or a vegetable. Our bodies are a series of lines which together form our shape. These lines make us all beautiful and individual. So I hope you too will see some of the beauty in your lines and enjoy my references to the cocktail bar that makes all of us who we are.

Which cocktail glass are you?

Don't get bogged down by squashing fruits and two dimensional shapes , learn which cocktail glass you are and dress for your body type.

First the champagne glass -this woman has a waist she has the delicate curves of a fluted champagne glass. Do not try and wear empire line clothing which goes straight through the body as you will look heavier than you really are. If you want to wear a smock style, look for something without too much volume in at. Dresses to suit you this year are the wrap dress or a Shirtmaker style.

The high ball glass – this woman has very little waist and look great in clothing made up of straight lines. This woman is even from her shoulders or a waist down to her tips. This season smocks will look fabulous on her. She will also look wonderful in the skinny pants. Our high ball lady can also look forward to the Double Breasted jackets returning next year. Her greatest mistake would be to try and wear anything which has a definite waist to it. She needs to embrace her straight lines.

The Martini glass – this girl has a fabulously strong set of shoulders and is quite thin through her waist and hips. She is always going to look best in a halter neck. A Martini glass woman has to be careful of anything which is going to make her shoulders look too large. Some of the dresses this season which have wide necklines encrusted with large jewels could be quite dangerous for her. She wants to bring focus into the centre of her torso to balance herself. Long chains around her neck and square or V-necks will suit her the best.

Lastly we have the wine glass. Some women are chardonnay while some are full bodied reds. As we all know wine glasses come in many shapes and sizes. Some are small with just a small bowl to the glass and then some are more suited to the very full body reds on the market. Whichever wine glass you are you know you are designed for something special. This season is very kind to this body shape. The smocks which are everywhere will flatter your figure. The only decision you will need to make will be which sort of neckline to select. Whether you wear a smock as a dress or over a pair of trousers you will be stylish and comfortable all season. Also look out for the shirt dress. This dress can be worn belted or unbelted for equal effect. This is not a figure hugging season which is going to leave you feeling like you have everything going for you and nothing left to hide.

So drink to your health, your wealth and your shape. It is after all, your heritage and who you are.
